TOPIC:  2016 - Healthcare Politics & Policy Review

Join the OAHU on Thursday, June 9 for an exclusive one-hour webinar session hosted by NAHU CEO Janet Trautwein covering the 2016 election and what the presidential hopefuls are proposing in their health insurance and health care platforms. She’ll also give us an update on the latest in healthcare politics and policy. 

The discussion of health care and politics will continue with John Greene -- Vice President of Congressional Affairs at the National Association of Health Underwriters.  John has been NAHU's lobbyist since September 2000. He has worked on every major piece of health care legislation from TAA to the PPACA. In 2005, he spearheaded legislation which expanded a program for long-term care insurance policies to all states as part of the 2005 Deficit Reduction Act. He was a member of the Senate mental health parity negotiating team which led to enactment in 2008. As part of the recently passed bill on the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) payment fix for physicians, John helped get bipartisan support for a provision that was included in the final package to provide relief to employers from a provision of the health care law.  John has a Masters in Health Services Administration from The George Washington University and lives in Rockville, MD.

This program has been approved for two hours of GENERAL continuing education credits for both Nebraska & Iowa, pending approvals.

ALTERNATE PROGRAM -- When Finality Becomes a Reality: End of Life Decisions

Also from 8:30 - 10:30 AM, our friends from NAIFA-Omaha will be presenting a pre-recorded program in which a panel of experts will explore various financial considerations that concern the individual, the spouse, and the children in the emotional stress of the moment. They will also consider ways advisors can help clients make sensible “last-minute” decisions to answer family concerns.  

Attendees will learn:
•How people respond to their financial situation when there is an end-of-life perspective
•Why it is important to review all estate and financial documents
•How different types of pensions affect planning and income decisions
•Selecting the appropriate trust to manage assets for underage beneficiaries
•How beneficiary choices affect tax planning
